ECOV was started in 1995 by a group of people interested in forming an organization in the Ohio Valley area to foster spiritual and psychological development of its members, their friends, family and clients. These people met with Helen Palmer at the Athenaeum of Ohio where she was giving an Enneagram workshop. Helen encouraged them to organize as an “Enneagram Center” associated with her program.
Members of ECOV then committed to completing the Enneagram Professional Training Program (EPTP) with Helen Palmer and her partner, David Daniels and to identify with their teaching. This resulted in the first Mission Statement which was approved by the group on May 31, 1996. ECOV was then formally affiliated with the Enneagram Professional Training Program in the Oral (Narrative) Tradition.
In the years that followed, ECOV continued to invite Helen Palmer to return to Cincinnati to offer workshops. In addition to sponsoring Helen Palmer, ECOV has invited other speakers to Cincinnati including David Daniels and Deborah Olsen, both representatives of the Narrative Tradition.
ECOV supports the work of the Association of Enneagram Teachers in the Narrative Tradition (AETNT), a networking and support organization. We also support the renamed Palmer/Daniels school—the Trifold School for Enneagram studies which includes the EPTP, the business program, and the spiritual school.
Members participate as counselors and supervisors in the Enneagram Professional Training Teacher Certification Program, serve on the board of the AETNT, offer workshops, panels and typing interviews featuring the Oral Tradition methods, and serve as follow-on group teachers for Helen’s current series of workshops on spirituality
The current membership of ECOV includes Karen Amend*, Tom Baldwin, Tracy Colina*, Charlie Dorenkott*, Tom Flautt*, Leslie Hershberger, Carol Jackson, Eric McLellan*, Faye Schwelitz, Curt Spear, Donna Steffen and Ginny Wiltse*. Carol Jackson is currently serving as ECOV’s President.
